Roger Lewis read music at Nottingham University and then worked as a professional musician with theatre, dance, classical ballet, and classical choral companies across the UK. Following two years as a music administrator across all music genres, he became a rock/pop producer and presenter at Radio Tees, a producer at Capital Radio and a producer at BBC Radio 1. Roger Lewis was then appointed Head of BBC Radio Music Department. He left pop radio to lead the EMI Records Classical Division, and then the multi-genre EMI Premier Label Group and returned to classical music to be President of Decca Records. Roger Lewis rejoined music radio as Managing Director and Programme Controller of Classic FM and a main board director of the parent plc, GWR Group He left London to return home to Wales to be Managing Director at ITV Wales. Roger Lewis was then appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of the Welsh Rugby Union and the Millennium Stadium. He sat on the British and Irish Lions Board, the Six Nations Rugby Council and the Boards of the Celtic Rugby Cup and the European Heineken Cup. Roger Lewis has been a member of numerous culture and arts boards, as a director and chair, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Liverpool European Capital of Culture, Wales Millennium Centre, National Museum of Wales, Festival 2022, and the review of the historic environment service, Cadw.
